Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how CareerScope collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the CareerScope mobile application and yourcareerscope.com.

Last updated: July 31, 2026

CareerScope (“CareerScope,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the CareerScope iOS application and the website at yourcareerscope.com (together, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed in connection with the Services.

By creating an account or otherwise using the Services, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide

  • Account information: email address, authentication credentials, and display name or similar identifiers you choose.
  • Résumé and career materials: résumé/CV files you upload and text extracted from those files.
  • Profile information: skills, experience summaries, education, job preferences, and other profile fields you enter or that are generated from your résumé with your use of the Services.
  • Questionnaire answers: responses to personality and work-style assessments.
  • Job activity: jobs you view, swipe on, save, dismiss, or mark for application; and, when Beta cover-letter tools are available, cover letters you generate or edit.
  • Communications: messages you send to support, privacy, legal, or press inboxes, and waitlist signup information.
  • Location preferences: city, region, or similar location inputs you provide to improve job relevance (precise GPS is not required for core features).

1.2 Information from authentication providers

  • Email / password authentication: credentials are processed by our authentication provider (Supabase Auth). We store account identifiers and session metadata needed to keep you signed in.
  • Sign in with Apple: when you choose Apple Sign In, we receive the Apple user identifier and the email address Apple provides (which may be a private relay address), subject to your Apple ID settings.
  • Google Sign In (planned): when enabled, we will receive basic profile identifiers authorized by Google’s OAuth consent screen (typically name, email, and a stable user ID). We will not receive your Google password.

1.3 Information collected automatically

  • Device and app data: device type, operating system version, app version, language, crash logs, and diagnostic events.
  • Usage data: feature interactions (for example, onboarding completion, swipe actions) used to operate, secure, and improve the Services.
  • Website data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referrers when you visit yourcareerscope.com. See our Cookie Policy for cookie details.

1.4 Information from third-party job providers

Job listings displayed in CareerScope are sourced from providers such as Adzuna. Listing content generally describes employers and roles—not your personal information—but your interactions with listings (views, saves, swipes) are associated with your account.

2. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and secure your account and authenticate sessions;
  • Analyze résumés and build or update your professional profile;
  • Generate personality-informed job recommendations;
  • Display, filter, and rank job listings;
  • Enable saving jobs and, in Beta, generating AI-assisted cover letters you request;
  • Provide customer support and respond to privacy requests;
  • Monitor reliability, prevent fraud and abuse, and secure the Services;
  • Improve matching quality and product experience;
  • Send service-related notices (for example, security or policy updates);
  • Send product updates or waitlist communications where permitted and consistent with your preferences;
  • Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not allow employers to browse a public CareerScope profile directory of candidates.

3. Résumé Storage

Résumé files you upload are stored in secured infrastructure associated with your account (including object storage and database records managed through our backend powered by Supabase / PostgreSQL). Extracted text and structured profile fields derived from your résumé are retained to power matching and, when available, Beta cover-letter features until you delete them or delete your account, subject to Section 11 (Data Retention) and Section 12 (Deleting Accounts).

4. AI Processing

Certain features rely on artificial intelligence, including résumé analysis and match explanations. Cover-letter generation is a planned Beta capability. To provide AI features you use, résumé content, relevant profile fields, questionnaire signals, and (when Beta drafting tools ship) job-context text may be transmitted to AI service providers such as OpenAI for processing on our behalf.

  • AI outputs can be inaccurate or incomplete. You should review generated content before relying on it or sending it to employers.
  • We use AI providers as processors/service providers to deliver the features you request. We do not sell your résumé content.
  • Do not upload information you are not authorized to share or that you do not want processed by our AI providers.

5. Authentication

Authentication is provided through Supabase Auth. Sessions are established using industry-standard tokens stored on your device. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and account credentials. Sign out on shared devices.

6. Apple Sign In

If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple’s authentication flow and privacy controls apply to the information Apple shares with us. You may choose Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature. To disconnect Apple Sign In, use your Apple ID settings and/or delete your CareerScope account.

7. Google Sign In

Google Sign In is planned for a future release. When launched, Google’s OAuth screens will disclose the scopes requested. You may revoke Google access in your Google account settings. This Policy will be updated if Google Sign In introduces material new data practices.

8. Location

We use location preferences you provide (such as a city or region) to improve the geographic relevance of job recommendations. If the app requests device location permissions in a future version, iOS will present a system permission prompt, and you may deny or later revoke access in system settings. Core account features are designed to work with a manually provided location preference.

9. Questionnaire Answers, Job Preferences, and Saved Jobs

Personality and preference answers are stored with your account and used to personalize recommendations. Saved jobs and swipe history help the product remember your interests and avoid resurfacing dismissed roles. These records are deleted or de-identified when you delete your account, subject to limited retention needs described below.

10. Cookies and Analytics

The website may use essential cookies and limited analytics technologies to understand aggregate traffic and improve the site. Details are in our Cookie Policy. The mobile app primarily uses authenticated sessions and on-device storage rather than browser cookies. We may use privacy-respecting product analytics or crash reporting to improve stability; where required, we will provide in-product notices or controls.

11. Third-Party Providers

We use vetted service providers that process data on our instructions to operate the Services, including:

  • Supabase: authentication, PostgreSQL database, file storage, and related backend infrastructure.
  • OpenAI: AI processing for résumé analysis and matching assistance, and for cover-letter generation when that Beta feature is available.
  • Adzuna: job listing data used to populate recommendations.
  • Hosting / CDN providers (for example, Vercel) for yourcareerscope.com.
  • Apple for Sign in with Apple and App Store distribution.

These providers may process data in the United States or other countries where they operate. We require appropriate contractual and technical safeguards consistent with applicable law.

12. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. After account deletion, we delete or irreversibly de-identify personal data within 30 days, except where a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (for example, security logs, dispute resolution, or legal compliance). Backups may persist for a limited additional period before rolling off in the ordinary course.

13. Deleting Accounts

You may delete your account in the CareerScope app (Settings → Delete Account) or by emailing support@yourcareerscope.com from your account email with the subject “Delete my CareerScope account.” Full instructions are on our Delete Account page.

14. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. To exercise rights, email privacy@yourcareerscope.com. We may verify your request before responding.

15. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) may provide rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of “sale” or certain “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising. CareerScope does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are commonly defined. California residents may submit requests to privacy@yourcareerscope.com. You may designate an authorized agent subject to verification. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

Categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers (such as email), internet/activity information, professional information (résumé content), and inferences related to job preferences—used for the business purposes described in this Policy.

16. GDPR and International Users

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing typically include performance of a contract (providing the Services), legitimate interests (security, improvement, fraud prevention), and consent where required (for example, certain cookies or optional communications).

CareerScope is operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., you understand that information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries that may have different data protection laws than your country of residence. Where required, we use appropriate transfer mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) with service providers.

EEA/UK users may have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You may also contact privacy@yourcareerscope.com.

17. Children’s Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable local law sets a higher age for consent). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact privacy@yourcareerscope.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete the information.

18. Security

We implement technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and secure authentication. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. See our Security page for more detail and responsible disclosure.

19. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in-app or by email when appropriate.
